CHILDREN'S CAMPS (AGES 5-9) at Studio E Art

Studio E has been serving the community with art education camps and classes since 1991! All of our camps are taught by professionals in the field with higher level degrees in fine art. Our camps run Tuesdays- Fridays with morning sessions from 9am-11:30 and afternoon sessions from 12:15-2:45PM. The tuition is $185 per week of half day camp or $350 if the student enrolls in both the morning and afternoon camp for the same week. Half day students should pack a snack and drink to bring everyday. Full day students should pack a lunch and a snack plus drink.

Summer Camp Topics:

 

Week 1

Tuesday July 6-Friday July 9th

9am-11:30AM "Nature Crafts"

Dream Catchers, Picture Frames, Weaving, Sea Shells, and so much more crafty fun! Each day will feature one or two different projects that will keep them excited and inspired throughout the summer!

 

12:15-2:45PM "Zen Ceramics"

In this hand-building camp, students will learn basic techniques with guided step by step projects that will keep them...zen! Projects will include wind chimes, a buddha, a lotus and more! Please note, projects will need to be fired before they can be taken home. You will receive a call from us when your student's box of clay projects is ready for pick up. No prior experience in necessary!

 

Week 2

Tuesday July 13th- Friday July 16th

9am-11:30AM "Hand-building Bowls, Cups and More!"

In this hand-building camp, students will learn basic techniques in handuilding with stoneware clay. Students will explore coil rolling and slab rolling techniques to create their own one of a kind cups, mugs and bowls! Glazing is included. Please note, projects will need to be fired before they can be taken home. You will receive a call from us when your student's box of clay projects is ready for pick up. No prior experience in necessary. If the student has extra pieces to glaze from previous camps, they may do so in this camp. 

 

12:15-2:45PM "Painting Fun!"

In this camp, students will learn beginner painting techniques using tempera and watercolor paints. This camp focuses on experimentation with painting, such as throwing salt on a wet watercolor painting, painted paper collage, playfulness with linework and so much more! Students will complete one guided project per day. Art history and famous artist inspiration will be linked into projects whenever possible. No prior experience is necessary!

 

Week 3

Tuesday July 20th- Friday July 23rd

9am-11:30AM "Animal Portraits"

In this camp, students will create a different guided mixed media project each day based on animals. Projects will include drawing and painting techniques and a mix of varying materials in each project including colored pencil, tempera paint, oil pastel and more. Emphasis will be places on drawing/ painting  fur, scales and other animal skin textures. On the last day of camp, students will get to create a painting of their own pet! teachers will remind students to bring in a picture from home, or the student may use a reference photo from our stock collection. No prior experience is necessary!

 

12:15-2:45PM "Barnyard Animal Ceramics"

In this camp, students will learn basic techniques in handuilding with stoneware clay. The teacher will have a different guided project each day including an alpaca plate, a mug featuring their favorite animal and more! Glazing is included. Please note, projects will need to be fired before they can be taken home. You will receive a call from us when your student's box of clay projects is ready for pick up. No prior experience in necessary. If the student has extra pieces to glaze from previous camps, they may do so in this camp. 

 

Week 4 

Tuesday July 27th- Friday July 30th (THIS TOPIC IS NOW FUL)

9am-11:30am "Sea Themed Ceramics"

In this camp, students will learn basic techniques in handuilding with stoneware clay. The teacher will have a different guided project each day including a sea turtle, a mermaid/merman,  their favorite sea animal and more! Glazing is included. Please note, projects will need to be fired before they can be taken home. You will receive a call from us when your student's box of clay projects is ready for pick up. No prior experience in necessary. If the student has extra pieces to glaze from previous camps, they may do so in this camp. 

 

12:15PM-2:45PM "Sea Themed Painting"

In this camp, students will have fun exploring a variety of painting techniques while creating their favorite sea creatures. Projects will include a seascape, an underwater painting, sea creature painting and more. Students will create one or two projects per day with step by step guidance. As always, we will encourage students to add individual expression throughout their artwork. No prior experience is necessary. 

 

Week 5 

Tuesday August 3rd-Friday August 6th

9am-11:30am "Watercolor Camp"

This camp will focus on learning the basics of watercolor, with sequential lessons that build onto the student's knowledge. Students will learn at their own pace as they create step by step guided projects each day. As always, we will encourage students to add individual expression throughout their artwork. No prior experience is necessary. 

 

12:15PM-2:45PM "Dessert Time Ceramics Camp"

An exciting camp where students will focus on their favorite subject; Dessert of course! In this camp, students will learn basic techniques in handuilding with stoneware clay. The teacher will have a different guided project each day including an ice cream cone, box of French fries, a doughnut, a Starbucks drink and more! Glazing is included. Please note, projects will need to be fired before they can be taken home. You will receive a call from us when your student's box of clay projects is ready for pick up. No prior experience in necessary. If the student has extra pieces to glaze from previous camps, they may do so in this camp. 

 

Week 6

Tuesday August 10th-13th

9am-11:30am "Hand-building Basics Camp"

Even if your student has been attending ceramics camp with us all summer, they will still learn tons of new and necessary skills in this camp. Besides hand building, students will gain appreciation for what goes on behind the scenes in our ceramics room including kiln firing, pugging clay, pottery wheel care and more! (Please note, students in this age group do not use the pottery wheels yet.) Skills such as coil rolling, slab rolling, pinching, wedging, scoring and slipping will all be covered in this camp. Students will create three step by step guided projects including a coil pay, a "thing box" and a name plate. Glazing is included. Please note, projects will need to be fired before they can be taken home. You will receive a call from us when your student's box of clay projects is ready for pick up. No prior experience in necessary. If the student has extra pieces to glaze from previous camps, they may do so in this camp. 

 

12:15PM-2:45PM "Draw Your Favorite Cartoon Characters and Create Your Own!"

In this camp, students will learn how to draw their favorite characters! Each student will receive their own sketchbook at the start of camp, which will be filled throughout the week! We will be exploring linework using sharpie markers and colored pencils. Students will learn what goes into creating their own character, such as developing the character's features and keeping them consistent when drawing the character over and over! Students may also delve into drawing their own cartoon stories in their sketchbooks. Group critiques focused on positive encouragement will help create a sense of group, and keep students engaged and inspired. No prior experience is necessary. 

 

Week 7

Tuesday August 17th - Friday August 20th

9am-11:30am "Famous Artist Painting Camp"

In this camp, students will learn about the world's most famous artists! Students will create two projects per day inspired different artists. Artists may include Freida Kahlo, Yayoi Kausuma, Roy Ltchenstein, Hokusai, Laurel Burch and more! Al projects will be step by step guided, using a variety of different mixed media materials. No prior experience is necessary. 

 

12:15PM-2:45PM "Sculpt Your Favorite Characters Camp"

In this camp, students will use hand building techniques to create their favorite cartoon characters out of clay. This camp is student centered and personalized based on each student's own interests. Glazing is included. Please note, projects will need to be fired before they can be taken home. You will receive a call from us when your student's box of clay projects is ready for pick up. No prior experience in necessary. If the student has extra pieces to glaze from previous camps, they may do so in this camp. 

 

Week 8

Tuesday August 24th- Friday August 27th

9am-11:30am "Fall Themed Ceramics"

Fall already??? By the time these babies come out of the oven, yes it will be the start of a new school year! In this camp, students will learn hand building techniques using stoneware clay, creating a different step by step guided project each day. Projects will include a pumpkin plate, a halloween cat, an apple and more!  Please note, projects will need to be fired before they can be taken home. You will receive a call from us when your student's box of clay projects is ready for pick up. No prior experience in necessary. If the student has extra pieces to glaze from previous camps, they may do so in this camp. 

 

12:15PM-2:45PM "Barnyard Animal Painting Camp"

Get a jump start on fall fun in this beginner painting camp for the littles! Each day, students will create one or two guided projects. Books may be incorporated into some of these projects. This camp will focus on exploring mixed media techniques in painting! No prior experience in necessary. 

 

Registration

COVID 19 Precautions:

To keep everybody safe, we will be adhering to the following precautions:

 

 

  1. Limit of ten students in each class room at a time. All will sit at separate tables 6' apart (with the exception of friends who drove together or siblings.) This will need to be communicated to us ahead of time.
  2. Masks will be worn through lobby and anytime while not seated. Students will have the option to pull down their mask once seated. If you would like your child to wear their mask the whole time, please let us know in advance. Teachers and assistants will wear masks at all times.
  3. We will take each student's temperature at the door using their wrist. 
  4. Students will either use hand sanitizer or wash up in the bathroom before entering the classroom. 
  5. Students will be dropped off at door. We apologize, but at the time we cannot allow parents in our office. Doors will remain locked through camp.
  6. Students will receive a clean apron at the start of each day. We have a hamper for dirty aprons and wash them after every single use. (We have over 200 aprons in our studio!)
  7. Frequently touched surfaces will be cleaned throughout the day and reported in our cleaning log.

 

 

Summer Camp Make Up Policy:

If your student feels sick, please keep them home, and report it to us by emailing Michelle at ssstylianou50@yahoo.com or calling us at 631-744-4001. At this time, we can only allow make up camps for sick students who have reported their absence ahead of time. Due to mandated space constraints, we will not be able to accommodate make ups for any other reason, so please plan accordingly.
