Bug Buddies: Cicadas | Kids Out and About Long Island

Bug Buddies: Cicadas

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 08/03/2025
Join us for a deep dive into the world of cicadas, those loud summer singers with a secret life underground! Discover how these fascinating insects depend on trees—not just for food, but for their entire life cycle. Did you know cicadas spend most of their lives as nymphs, hidden beneath the soil and feeding on tree roots? When they finally emerge, they climb trees to molt, sing, and lay eggs—making them essential (if noisy!) members of the ecosystem. In this program, we’ll explore their incredible life cycle and their role in the forest.
