Plants and Colonization
*The event has already taken place on this date: Sun, 08/10/2025
Seminar with Garden Coordinator, Angel Martinez Lombardo. Join us for a discursive exploration of the botany of settler colonialism. We'll cover a brief history of the European colonization of the Americas through the lense of the environment . We'll discuss colonization as a "geomorphic force", affecting all aspects of land including people, plants and animals. Well also unpack the semantics behind scientific classifications of plant invasiveness as it relates to urban living, and the complicated ways science can become an accomplice of the forces of colonialism.
