Professional Youth Theatre Summer Camp

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/23/2019
Professional Youth Theatre (PYT) is Long Island's first musical theater camp brought to you exclusively by trained professionals from NYC's performing arts community. Our goal is to inspire young actors through outstanding programming and cultivate well-rounded performers. With full-day and half-day summer camp options and affordable tuition, PYT is one of the fastest growing day camps in the region.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

About PYT Summer Camp:

PYT offers a seven-week day camp for children entering 1st through 12th grade with full-day and half-day options. While many camps are geared towards sports and recreation, we offer an alternative program suited for children and teens who are more artistically inclined. PYT offers elite musical theater training to children and teens. Founded on the principle that children should be taught by top, vetted professionals who themselves have received the best training and enjoyed successful careers, we bring in only the most qualified instructors to comprise our faculty. Our year-round programming offers children an opportunity to delve deeply into the three disciplines of musical theater--acting, singing, and dancing.

PYT's Summer Camp is a vital component of our programming, offering students an opportunity to study theater intensively over a seven-week period. Students are exposed to every aspect of musical theater including both the performing arts as well as elements of technical theater (scenery, props, lighting, sound, wardrobe). Students spend the first half of each day working on acting, singing, and dancing technique with our top faculty. Special guest teaching artists, many of whom are currently on Broadway, visit students weekly to delve into specific areas of interest. In the afternoons, students rehearse for their end-of-summer musical, a large-scale, professional-caliber production with top-of-the-line costumes, sound, lighting, choreography, and (most importantly) talent. Our students' high level of training is reflected in their performance at the end of the summer, which is why we've quickly gained a reputation for quality on Long Island.

NEW! Counselor-in-Training Program:

Starting this summer, PYT will be offering a Counselor-in-Training program for rising high school juniors, seniors, and college freshmen who have been campers for the previous two consecutive summers. Rising juniors will receive 1/3 off tuition, rising seniors 1/2 off tuition, and rising college freshmen will attend for free. Counselors-in-Training will still participate in all elements of our program and reap the benefits of our high-caliber professional programming but will also be trained to assist our teaching, administrative, and directorial staff. Additionally, CITs will work with our directors to identify areas that inspire them and will be assigned special projects in those areas to spearhead throughout the summer. CITs will be considered above other applicants for future paid assistant counselor work throughout their college careers. To apply for a CIT position, please email us at ProYouthTheatre@gmail.com.

We hope to see many of you this Sunday from 3:00-4:00 PM! We are currently offering our Early Bird Special for enrollment in our 2019 Summer Camp. If you register your child before March 1st you will receive 5% off of tuition. To learn more about our summer camp, please visit our website. Thank you!
